Based in Southfield, Michigan, Drifter Vans operates on a small-batch model, completing twenty-four custom camper vans annually on Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter chassis. Every build follows the Drifter Coachcraft Standard, a design-led approach where materials, finishes, cabinetry, and systems are selected and integrated as a single cohesive interior.
Four signature layouts, The Drifter, The Wanderer, The Nomadik, and The Scout, serve as proven starting points, each refined across multiple commissions but rebuilt from a fresh brief every time.
Drifter Vans offers four signature floor plans, each developed and refined across multiple commissions before being rebuilt from scratch for each new owner. The layouts cover a range of use cases:
- The Drifter: the flagship layout, starting at $120k (excluding chassis)
- The Wanderer: an open-plan design with an outdoor shower in the rear garage and a swivel passenger seat, available on Ford Transit, starting at $115k
- The Nomadik: a full wet bath layout with extended interior functionality for owners spending weeks at a time on the road, available on Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter, starting at $130k
- The Scout: a compact full wet bath layout built for maneuverability, available on Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter, starting at $130k
Every van is numbered and built once, for a specific person, and never repeated to the same specification. ### The Commission Process
Each build begins with a brief. Materials, finishes, cabinetry configurations, and systems are determined by that brief rather than pulled from a catalog. This approach means the signature layouts function as documented starting points, not fixed products. Owners work directly with Drifter to shape the interior around their specific needs. ### Warranty and Owner Support
Drifter Vans offers a nationwide warranty program called DrifterCare Coverage, providing owners with support after the build is complete. The company also publishes The Drift, a journal covering build decisions, design thinking, and owner stories, giving prospective clients a detailed look at the process and the finished vans before committing to a commission.
