About Sportsmobile
Founded in El Paso, Texas in 1961, Sportsmobile brings more than six decades of conversion experience to every build. The company works across four chassis platforms, offering options ranging from front-wheel-drive Dodge Promasters to 4x4 Mercedes Sprinters, with penthouse tops available across all van sizes.
Customers can choose from a wide range of interior floor plans, electrical and solar configurations, heating and cooling systems, and bath options. Builds are handled at three locations in Indiana, Arizona, and Texas, with a typical new build timeline of six to twelve months.
Sportsmobile began converting vans in 1961, starting with VW and Ford platforms before expanding to the full-size van market. Over the decades, the company developed signature features including pop-top roofs that raise and lower from inside the van, and 4x4 conversions that date back to the early 1970s.
Today, those same core ideas have evolved into modern penthouse tops and electronically assisted 4x4 systems across multiple chassis options. ### What Sportsmobile Builds
Every conversion is built to customer specifications, with the option to order a base van through Sportsmobile's preferred dealer network or supply your own vehicle. Supported chassis include:
- Mercedes Sprinter (diesel, AWD available)
- Ford Transit (gas, AWD available)
- Dodge Promaster (gas, front-wheel drive)
- Chevy Express (gas V6 or V8, 2WD or 4WD)
Penthouse tops are available on all four platforms. Interior options span floor plans, seating and bed configurations, bath and toilet setups, refrigerators, cooktops, solar panels, and full electrical and plumbing systems. An all-electric build path is also offered. ### Three Locations and Pre-Owned Inventory
Sportsmobile operates production, service, and sales facilities in Huntington, Indiana; Gold Canyon, Arizona; and Austin, Texas. In addition to new custom builds, the company maintains a pre-owned inventory of inspected conversions, many of which can be modified after purchase.
Financing is available on full van plus conversion packages, and rental vans are also offered for those who want to try before committing to a build.
